Cognitive therapy exercises for improved brain function

Just like exercises that target specific muscle groups, Brain Gym provides a workout of over 40 brain exercises that target specific types of memory. Regular brain exercise has been proven to improve memory and thinking skills, much like physical exercise improves blood flow, strength, and endurance.

THE MIND/BODY CONNECTION

For the Mind

Over 40 different memory games and challenges that target different parts of the brain and brain functions. Evidence suggests that the brain is more receptive to stimulus after physical exercise, which also may foster new brain cell growth.

For the Body

Stretching, strengthening, and relaxation exercises are available for all levels of ability. These exercises release chemicals called endorphins that interact with the receptors in your brain and trigger a positive feeling in the body.

Restoring Full Body Wellness

We understand that building new fitness habits is difficult and often times we fail. Our goal is to change your view on fitness, so that it becomes a part of who you are and your lifestyle. We strongly believe that if you practice healthy habits, you will be able to obtain a healthy lifestyle.

Do Brain Exercises Really Work?

This controversy has arisen as some companies have made claims not backed by science that their program can “reverse aging effects on the brain” or “can boost your brain function in minutes a day”. Those claims are not realistic and we don't make them. However, cognitive remediation therapy aims to improve cognitive function by practicing relevant cognitive tasks that can help strengthen connections between neurons and reestablish firing patterns that were once there but were lost due to disease or injury. The experience of intervention does shape the brain, but the extent to which digital platforms do on their own is still a question being investigated.

Understanding Mild Cognitive Impairment

Have you been diagnosed with MCI?

Mild cognitive impairment is a condition in which a person experiences a slight – but noticeable – decline in mental abilities (memory and thinking skills) compared with others of the same age. The minor decline in abilities is noticeable by the person experiencing them or by others who interact with the person, but the changes are not severe enough to interfere with normal daily life and activities.

Examples of memory and thinking problems that might be seen in someone with mild cognitive impairment include:

  • Memory loss - Forgets recent events, repeats the same questions and the same stories, forgets the names of close friends and family members, forgets appointments or planned events, forgets conversations, misplaces items often.
  • Language problems - Has trouble coming up with the desired words. Has difficulty understanding written or verbal (spoken to) information.
  • Attention - Loses focus. Is easily distracted.
  • Reasoning and judgment - Struggles with planning and problem solving. Has a hard time making decisions.
  • Complex decision-making - May struggle, but can complete complex tasks such as paying bills, taking medications, shopping, cooking, household cleaning, driving.

If you have been diagnosed with MCI and your doctor has suggested brain exercises, Brain Gym is here to help.
