It's all connected

The mind and the body are not two separate entities although they are often treated that way. Physical health and emotional health are intimately intertwined in what is commonly known as the mind/body connection.

What We Do

Brain Gym is a cognitive rehabilitation therapeutic tool geared toward helping seniors remain physically and mentally fit. We are a small part of the bigger picture and we are dedicated to this innovative approach to health care. Our goal is to make it accessible to everyone.

Frequently Asked Questions

Research has shown that there are many ways you can hone your mental sharpness and help your brain stay healthy, no matter what age you are. Doing certain brain exercises to help boost your memory, concentration, and focus can make daily tasks quicker and easier to do, and keep your brain sharp as you get older.

Physical activity can improve your cognitive health—helping you think, learn, problem-solve, and enjoy an emotional balance. It can improve memory and reduce anxiety or depression. But you don't have to be a fitness guru to reap the benefits. Any amount of physical activity can help.

Absolutely not! Young, old, or in between, the best thing you can do to maintain your mind and body wellness is to remain active in both areas.

  • Do some form of physical exercise at least twice per week
  • Maintain good blood pressure, cholesterol levels, and blood glucose levels
  • Eat a healthy diet and get an adequate amount of sleep
  • Exercise the brain (doing puzzles, quizzes, card games, reading, learning a new language or playing a new instrument)
  • Engage in social activities
  • Most important, see your doctor every 6 to 12 months so that he or she can check for changes in your memory or thinking skills over time.

What do the experts say?

The Cleveland Clinic

“We know that physical exercise, and aerobic exercise in particular, is very beneficial for maintaining brain health, even in people who are at risk for developing dementia and Alzheimer’s disease (AD),” says neuropsychologist Aaron Bonner-Jackson, PhD. “You can make a major difference in terms of how your body is functioning and, as a result, how your brain is functioning.”

John Hopkins University

Working memory has an impact on almost every facet of learning. Working memory is one of the keystone skills used when tackling a new idea or concept. A study from Johns Hopkins University provides hope that most everyone can improve their working memory with some training.

National Institute on Aging

"Exercise may benefit brain health and improve cognitive performance during aging. It’s also associated with reduced Alzheimer’s disease risk and cognitive decline."

Our Brain Gym program helps restore and strengthen this connection that may have been lost due to lack of activity or stimulation. There's much to see here. So, take your time, look around, and learn all there is to know about Brain Gym.
